Hannah was a multi-talented sportswoman, representing the Newcastle Jets and Australia’s Under 17 and 20 team. 

Southwell made the decision to switch codes in late 2016, playing rugby sevens for Australia at the 2016 Women’s Sevens Championships. 

She returned to rugby league in 2018 and represented St George Illawarra and New South Wales.

In 2020, Southwell was named as the Rugby League Players Association Players’ Champion, a peer-voted award. 

Southwell is now representing the Newcastle Knights after being originally part of the Sydney Roosters NRLW team, playing alongside sister Jesse. 

She was also part of the NSW Blues Origin team in 2021 and 2022 before suffering a season-ending injury.
