Jahrome was born in Wellington, New Zealand and moved to the Gold Coast as a teenager.
He was signed by the Gold Coast Titans in 2012 and made his debut in Round 17 of the 2023 NRL season.
Hughes starred throughout 2015 and 2016 in the Queensland Cup, where he was named in the Team of the Year at fullback for two consecutive years.
He played a sole game for the North Queensland Cowboys in 2016, before inking a two-year contract with the Melbourne Storm in June that year, to start in 2017.
Since his signing at the Storm, Hughes has played 82 matches and scored 30 tries.
He also was named in the New Zealand national rugby league team in 2019 and has played three games.
Hughes was a premiership player for the Melbourne Storm in 2020 and won the Spirit of ANZAC Medal in 2021.
